When it comes down to romantic comedies, there are thousands upon thousands for movies. Everyone loves to watch a couple onscreen fall for each other with hilarious moments along the way. It gives both single people and those in a relationship hope that anything can happen.

Throughout the years, we’ve all fallen in love with our own romantic-comedies but if you’ve ever taken the time out of your day to look at what their score is on Rotten Tomatoes, you may be surprised. Rotten Tomatoes rates movies and TV shows based on several factors and can be quite hard to please. And although there are thousands of rom-coms out there, we’re taking a look at five movies with near-perfect scores and five who really flopped in the eyes of Rotten Tomatoes.

BEST: THE BIG SICK - 98%

The Big Sick hit theaters in 2017 and made a big impact in the world of film. Directed by Michael Showalter, it was the real story about a man from Pakistan who fell in love with an American woman who fell into a coma after falling ill. The movie made $56.4 million in the box office and came out on top, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie was rated at 98% by the site and 88% by the viewers. The romantic comedy ties together cultural differences with sadness and comedic timing in a tasteful way.

WORST: SERVING SARA - 4%

If you can think back to 2002 where Matthew Perry and Elizabeth Hurley for acting gods, you’ll remember Serving Sara. Fans of Friends were excited to see Perry on the big screen and everyone who loves Hurley couldn’t wait to see her in something new.

However, according to Rotten Tomatoes, the film was a flop. With a 4% rating, the movie was about a woman (Hurley) who was just served divorce papers from her husband in Texas. Perry played man serving her and the two head off on an adventure together. With such a great duo, it’s surprising the film flopped so hard.

BEST: SAY ANYTHING - 98%

There are plenty of movies we love that don’t have the greatest score on Rotten Tomatoes, so we’re happy to see Say Anything with a score it deserves! At 98%, Say Anything was about a woman named Diane and a man named Lloyd who fall head over heels for one another.

Sadly, Diane’s dad thought Diane deserved more and begged her to get rid of Lloyd before he brought her down to his standards. Even if you haven’t seen Say Anything, the image of John Cusack standing outside Diane’s house with a stereo is imprinted on so many of our brains. Now that’s love.

WORST: DOWN TO YOU - 3%

The ’90s were such an important time for romantic comedies. Starring Freddie Prinze Jr. and Julia Styles, Down to You released in 2002 and was about a couple who fell in love before realizing how different the two truly were.

Although the ’90s world adored Freddie Prinz and Julia Styles, the plot wasn’t the greatest and it tanked in the box office and on Rotten Tomatoes. The site only gave this movie a 3%!

BEST: SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN - 100%

We finally reached our first 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes! The 1952 film Singin’ in the Rain was a rom-com wrapped up in a delightful musical. Starring Hollywood heavy hitters like Gene Kelly and Jean Hagen, the musical was about an actor named Don Lockwood who was trying to hide out after the release of his newest movie.

He’s constantly paired up with an actress named Lina even though the two don’t get along and she can’t sing for the life of her. The entire cost of this hit movie was around $2.4 million which was unthinkable in the ’50s. Thankfully, the film made over $12 million in the theaters.

WORST: GIGLI - 6%

Oh, Gigli. This film flopped so hard it still hangs over Jlo and Ben Affleck’s head like a dark cloud. Rotten Tomatoes only gave the movie a 6% rating — and that’s being generous. The movie only made around $7 million in the box office and that’s only because Jlo and Ben were romantically linked at the time.

The film was about Affleck (who was a mobster) who was setting off to kidnap a family member of a local prosecutor. Not sure if Gigli (Affleck) had what it took to follow through with the kidnapping, Jlo’s character was hired to keep an eye on him. And yes, it was as bad as it sounds.

BEST: DEFENDING YOUR LIFE - 97%

With a 97% rating from Rotten Tomatoes, can Merryl Streep do anything wrong? This is one actress who only gets better with age and whatever she touches turns to gold.

This rom-com released in 1991 and had Albert Brooks star alongside Streep. After a man named Daniel (Brooks) dies in a car accident, he has the chance to right some wrongs and learn from the fears he had on Earth. It’s then that he meets Julia, a woman who also recently passed, and the two fall hard for one another. By the end of the film, Julia and Daniel have different fates but it’s one of those movies that makes you think about life and the choices you make.

WORST: GOOD LUCK, CHUCK - 5%

With Dane Cook and Jessica Alba as the leads, it’s surprising this movie was so bad. Then again, Alba and Cook aren’t the best actors but they are easy on the eyes. The film was based on a ladies man (Cook) who realizes every woman he dates and sleeps with eventually goes off to marry the next person they date. This becomes a bad situation when Cook’s character falls in love with Jessica Alba’s character.

He doesn’t want to sleep with her for her to leave and marry someone else. Sadly, the film was only given a 5% from Rotten Tomatoes.

BEST: ROMAN HOLIDAY - 98%

In 1953, Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn starred alongside Andrew Peck in Roman Holiday. Rotten Tomatoes obviously saw good things in the film because they gave the movie a 98%!

In the film, Hepburn was a princess who was on holiday in Rom where she becomes bored with her royal duties. After venturing into the night, she comes face to face with a journalist named Joe Bradley. Between the secrets and rendezvous, this film was a hit in theaters and on the movie-rating site.

WORST: PLAYING FOR KEEPS - 3%

Playing for Keeps came out in 2012 and starred Jessica Biel and Gerrard Butler. In this rom-com, Butler plays a former sports pro who starts helping his son out by coaching his young soccer team. Due to his charm and good looks, many of the soccer moms are after him. However, no matter how much charm Gerrard Butler has, Rotten Tomatoes only gave this movie a 3%.
