When people talk about Carrie Bradshaw they focus on her strength and support of other women, especially women who are in the dating world and staying happy while trying to meet a man. Like many TV shows, Sex and the City is very easy to quote, and Carrie Bradshaw’s quotes, in particular, are worth thinking about even though the show hasn’t been on the air since the early 2000s.

Even though there are many Carrie quotes that are supportive of women, she said a few things in various episodes that really didn’t seem that supportive at all. Here’s a look at some Carrie Bradshaw quotes: five quotes from when she was with women and three quotes from when she was against women.

With Women: “Being single used to mean that nobody wanted you. Now it means you’re pretty sexy and you’re taking your time deciding how you want your life to be and who you want to spend it with.”

Carrie Bradshaw is the ultimate when it comes to making single women feel great and inspired to get out there every day, not caring that they don’t have a partner. Who cares when you’re so fabulous?! That’s totally Carrie’s vibe.

This quote from Carrie Bradshaw is one when she was with women since it’s a beautiful sentiment. The second part – “you’re taking time to decide how you want your life to be and who you want to spend it with” – is key since this is the real heart of the quote. This is why so many women are single: they want time to love their jobs, travel, explore, and meet someone who makes logical sense to be with forever.

With Women: “Don’t forget to fall in love with yourself first.”

We’ve heard the saying “you need to love yourself first” or “before someone else can fall in love with you, you need to love yourself.” However it’s phrased, it of course means that you have to find confidence and feel good before you can fall in love. This is totally what Carrie Bradshaw is talking about in this particular quote, which means that it’s another quote when she was definitely with women.

Carrie’s reminder should be in our heads on every date. She’s right and every time she speaks, she’s like a best friend who knows the perfect advice for every time that we need some motivation.

With Women: “I believe there is a curse put on the head of anybody who tries to fix up their friends.”

Carrie was with women when she said this statement. Were truer words about blind dates and set-ups ever spoken? It doesn’t seem like it.

Have we ever been set up on a blind date by a friend or family? If we have, we can most likely say that it was so awkward that it’s difficult to even think about it. This is one of the most awkward and cringe-inducing situations that we could ever be in because then we feel bad about telling the friend who set us up that it was such a nightmare. It would be awesome if Carrie was an actual IRL person and we could thank her for this quote.

This Carrie Bradshaw quote is from the first Sex and the City movie, and it’s so great that it deserves to be mentioned here. When Carrie says “friendships never go out of style” it’s such a flawless statement on two levels. First of all, she’s speaking about how the show is about good friends, and second of all, she’s referencing how the show also features really fashionable women.

Sure, there are lots of plotlines on the show, guest stars, other characters, and emotionally charged scenes. But focusing on the fact that this series is about friends is important, and that’s why we love this quote so much.

With Women: “Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with.”

This Carrie Bradshaw quote sums up so much about this show, and it’s also a reason why there are so many SATC superfans.

Yeah, love is a wonderful thing, but Carrie is saying that a soulmate could be platonic instead of romantic and that’s a really interesting idea. Not everyone believes this, of course, and many women find love while enjoying their strong and amazing friendships at the same time. But Carrie definitely struck a chord with single women who wanted to believe that friendship could be just as fulfilling as romance, and anyone who has been single needs that.

Against Women: “I like my money where I can see it - hanging in my closet.”

When it comes to quotes when it sounds like Carrie Bradshaw was against women, this is one of them for sure. SATC fans know that Carrie makes fashion statements with everything that she wears and that the clothes that the characters wore were a big part of the series. That’s cool… but when we analyze this quote of Carrie’s, it seems a bit sexist.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with spending some money on clothes and having fun with that, but women can spend their hard-earned cash on so many things that are more interesting than clothes. For example, maybe we love treating ourselves to a once-a-year trip that allows us to explore the world and learn something.

Against Women: “We keep dresses we’ll never wear again, but we throw away our ex-boyfriends.”

Carrie definitely seems to be against women with this quote since she’s focusing on dresses. There are so many things other than clothing to talk about, aren’t there? This would have been a more interesting quote if she had said that women keep another kind of object around instead of talking about clothes.

The second part of the quote – “we throw away our ex-boyfriends” – also seems like it’s against women. This seems to be a general statement that no woman cares about her ex once the relationship is over. But, of course, some relationships end on good terms and some women will stay friends with their ex (and even go to their wedding).

Against Women: “When I first moved to New York and I was totally broke, sometimes I bought Vogue instead of dinner. I found it fed me more.”

Yes, Carrie Bradshaw is a cool character who says some smart and insightful things… but this quote makes it seem like she was against women. She’s saying that she bought fashion magazines instead of eating dinner? Why? What’s wrong with eating dinner?

There’s nothing wrong with sitting down to an actual meal and loving food. After all, so many people are foodies today and it’s a really enjoyable part of life to think about food, talk about food, and of course, actually, eat food. It seems strange that she would say something like this. and we’re going to say that it’s awesome to love your food.
