Thanks to the introduction of Homelander on The Boys, we have seen the Superman-like tyrant abuse his power and take advantage of powerless to stop him. As the leader of a Justice League like superteam, there aren’t many who can oppose him or expose him to his evil ways. And with the MCU bringing some of our favorite Marvel characters to the big screen, one can only wonder who would fare well against Homelander and which hero might fall short. These are the five MCU heroes that can beat Homelander and five MCU heroes that would fall short.
Can Beat: Hawk-Eye
Hawkeye is a fun hero to watch, with his great fighting ability and array of trick arrows, he is arguably one of the most underrated members of the Avengers. Unfortunately, he is also human which makes any match up with a superhero a tough one, especially one with God-like powers that isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. With Hawkeye often struggling against powerful beings due to his limits, he would not fare very well against Homelander, who could easily ragdoll Hawkeye if they were ever in a one on one fight. Although he is a loved character, the match up with Homelander would easily be his last.
Can’t Beat: Thanos
Arguably the most powerful villain we’ve seen in the MCU thus far, the Mad Titan made easy work of the Avengers that barely got a drop of blood out of him in their fight. Even without the Infinity Stones, Thanos is able to overpower some of the most powerful beings in Marvel, including the Hulk.
With Homelander, his dominance would be much of the same, defeating him in a matter of seconds and perhaps even taking down the entire team singlehandedly. Thanos is not a villain to be messed with, not even from a like-minded individual like Homelander. Although the tyrants have a similar mindset, that would stop Thanos from destroying Homelander.
Can Beat: Black Widow
Similar to Hawkeye, Black Widow has a lot of limitations due to being human, so her track record with super beings is just as measly as that of Hawkeyes. Homelander might gain some respect for Natasha’s relentlessness in a fight but in the end, Homelander would take an easy victory. Homelander’s sheer power puts a lot of his foes in fear and with Black Widow it would just be too much power for her. Add in the fact he’s been able to easily defeat those more powerful than Black Widow, this would also be an easy victory for Homelander.
Can’t Beat: Thor
There aren’t a lot of beings that can go toe to toe with the God of Thunder, who’s history extends thousands of years. Homelander has never seen a being like Thor who although is comical, is a pretty ruthless warrior. With Homelander so used to having his powers and being unmatched, his lack of practice could prove deadly in a fight with Thor, who is an expert combatant with literal thousands of years of battle experience. As one of the most powerful of the Avengers, he would make short work of Homelander. Even without his famous hammer or ax, Thor would do what most of wish we could do to Homelander after watching the show.
Can Beat: Spider-man
This would be a great upset. Spider-Man has faced very powerful villains and won, including ones that have proved to be stronger or more powerful than the Web-Crawler. Unfortunately, he’s never seen anything quite like Homelander who would maybe try to recruit the webhead before putting a beatdown on Spider-Man. Spider-Man is well known for never back down and even getting up after taking serious beatings. He might prove to be a worthy opponent to Homelander but in the end, Spidey would fall. It would be a tough battle to watch, and us Marvel fans should be thankful we will likely never watch this matchup.
Can’t Beat: Hulk
Another fun matchup for MCU fans. The Hulk would stop at nothing to make sure Homelander goes down, including throwing him around like a ragdoll and attempting to rip him apart. Much like Thor, there is less than a handful of heroes, in any universe that can take on the Hulk and even less who have actually defeated the Hulk.
Known for his endless rage and indestructible will, Homelander wouldn’t know how to even approach a fight with the Hulk. His only chance would be to fly away but that might even be tough. Chalk one up for the angriest Avenger.
Can Beat: Iron Man
This one is highly debatable. But like his other fellow Avengers Hawkeye and Black Widow, Tony Stark is human. Even with his high tech suits, Iron Man would struggle against Homelander, who can use his heat vision to tear through his suit, leaving Tony nearly defenseless. Not to say Tony Stark is nothing without his suits but against Homelander, his mind and stubbornness would fall short. It would be an exciting fight that would mostly take place in the air. If for any reason Iron Man takes an advantage, maybe he could defeat Homelander, but it is unlikely.
Can’t Beat: Captain Marvel
Confirmed as the most powerful Avenger in the MCU, Captain Marvel would face the most powerful being in The Boys’ Universe. The fight might be close but Carol Danver’s pure power highly overpowers Homelanders and the fight would end with Captain Marvel taking the win.
Carol Danvers has taken on several of the galaxy’s worst and most powerful beings and has come victorious on several occasions, so it’s safe to say that Homelander wouldn’t be much of a challenge for Captain Marvel.
Can Beat: Captain America
This battle could go one of two ways. Unfortunately, both would not end well for Captain America. One would be with his shield that can most likely block any of Homelander’s attacks and prove to hold his own in a fight until Homelander is taken over by his rage. The second could be with Steve Rogers taking control of Mjolnir and using the Godlike weapon to cause some damage to Homelander. This could possibly be a victory for Cap but like many heroes of Homelander’s caliber, his ability to recover fast could be too much for Captain America. Sorry Cap.
Can’t Beat: Doctor Strange
Perhaps the only human that could take on Homelander, Dr. Strange possesses the mystical abilities that could take on any being. Proving himself to be a worthy opponent by holding his own against Thanos, Homelander wouldn’t be much of a challenge. Like many of the heroes that can take Homelander, Strange has something Homelander has never seen and it can be an advantage to take him out. As a master of mystical arts, Stephen Strange can easily overpower Homelander and make him wish he never crosses him. It would be a fun fight to watch, especially for those who don’t like Homelander too much.
