The upcoming slate of Marvel’s Disney+ shows is a really exciting collection. One of the first projects announced was the solo series Loki. Despite sometimes being a troublemaker, Loki has always been a fan favorite in the MCU and it will be a lot of fun to see him on his own adventure.
Along with the God of Mischief, we’re sure to see some other familiar faces from the MCU popping up in the series. It’s also clear that the Disney+ shows are not afraid of introducing some new Marvel characters through their shows. Here are some characters from the MCU who could show up in Loki and some new characters we hope to see.
MCU: Thor
It seems pretty obvious that Thor would make some sort of appearance in Loki. Thor plays such an important role in Loki’s character and vice versa. They have been through so much together, but it still seems like more can be done.
It has been confirmed that the Loki we will see in the show is the Loki who escaped with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. We saw Thor and Loki finally come together in Thor: Ragnarok, but maybe this version of Loki would still have a grudge against his brother.
New: Beta Ray Bill
Beta Ray Bill is a character that fans have been waiting to see in the MCU for years. With his bizarre horse-like face, Bill is an unusual creature who also happens to be a great hero. He has been an ally of Thor in the comics many times and is one of the few characters who was able to lift Mjolnir.
If Thor doesn’t appear in the new show, Bill could be a great replacement as the heroic foil to Loki’s schemes. He would be a difficult character design to pull-off, especially for a television show, but the result could be a very memorable addition to the MCU.
MCU: The Grandmaster
Thor: Ragnarok was a much-needed breath of fresh air for the Thor franchise and was filled with memorable characters. One of the most fun inclusions was The Grandmaster, played by Jeff Goldblum. As ruler of Sakaar, Grandmaster enslaves his citizens, executes who he wants and forces people to fight to the death for his own amusement. And yet he seems like a pretty fun guy.
Given that Loki will likely be out on some cosmic adventures, there’s no reason why these two cannot run into each other again. Goldblum is always a welcome addition to any project and it would be fun to learn a little more about this crazy character.
New: Nova
Ever since the cosmic side of the MCU was introduced, Marvel fans have been expecting Nova to some up on the big screen. Nova is a member of the Nova Corps, the intergalactic police seen in Guardians of the Galaxy and one of Marvel’s most popular cosmic heroes.
With a villainous Loki causing trouble throughout the galaxy, it could be fun to see Nova act as a space police officer hunting him down. That would be an ideal way to bring the character into the MCU before expanding him into the film side of things.
MCU: Lady Sif
Despite all the comedy that was in Thor: Ragnarok, there was a lot of death as well. In a matter of moments, all members of the Warriors Three, Thor’s good friends are killed by Hela. However, one key Asgardian who is missing from the massacre is Lady Sif.
Sif was last seen in Thor: The Dark World and was presumably off on a mission during Ragnarok. Though there is the possibility she could return in Thor: Love and Thunder, this series could also reintroduce her as a foil for Loki.
New: Enchantress
Though Loki is certainly Thor’s most famous and most important foe from the comics, there are plenty of other interesting villains we’ve yet to see. Once notable baddie who has yet to appear in the film is Enchantress, a seductive and powerful Asgardian sorceress who has teamed up with Loki on several occasions.
We could see Loki and Enchantress joining forces as an intergalactic Bonnie and Clyde. Or perhaps Enchantress would be a good rival for Loki, or maybe a femme fatale. It would be fun to see him meet his match.
MCU: Frigga
Loki clearly has major family issues, although the one member of his adoptive family he seems to truly care about is Frigga (Rene Russo). We see hints of their relationship in the first film and then it is explored deeper in Thor: The Dark World as we see Loki devastated by her death.
It seems like the series could take place before Frigga’s death or at least in a new timeline in which she might survive. However, it is done, seeing Loki spend more time with Frigga could reveal more of his softer side which would be interesting.
New: Doctor Doom
It’s possible that the series could explore Loki’s gradual evolution from a villain into an anti-hero. To make that work, he would need to face-off with an even more epic villain. Who better than perhaps Marvel’s greatest bad guy, Doctor Doom?
With all the Fantastic Four characters now controlled by the MCU again, Doctor Doom’s appearance in the MCU is only a matter of time. While such an epic character might be better suited for a cinematic intro, Doom is such a complex character. Taking the time to explore him in this series might help to make him more interesting.
MCU: Red Skull
While Doctor Doom is an evil enough character to make Loki look good, there is another famous Marvel villain skill lurking in the shadows of the universe. Avengers: Infinity War reintroduced Red Skull into the MCU as the keeper of the Soul Stone.
There is still some question as to where Red Skull is after the events of Avengers: Endgame and if he is freed from his servitude. Perhaps with Loki in possession of the Tesseract, Red Skull could seek to take back the artifact he once possessed himself.
New: Silver Surfer
Silver Surfer is a complex and fascinating character who is just waiting to get a proper big-screen portrayal. He is a tragic hero in the cosmic side of the universe and seems like a great character to bring into the MCU through this series.
Loki could certainly cross paths with Silver Surfer in his travels and we could get a sense of the character and his backstory. His introduction could also be used to plant the seeds for Galactus who seems to be an obvious choice for a villain the Avengers will someday face in the MCU.
