The Boys Season 1 garnered rave reviews and ratings but left a lot of people guessing when it ended with lots of twists and questions. Even those who read the comics were surprised by the show, leaving them excited for more. So without further delay, here are 5 plausible and 5 utterly ridiculous (but not impossible) theories we have about The Boys Season 2.

Believable: The Deep Gets An Edgy Reboot

Of The Seven, The Deep fell the hardest. After he was outed as a sexual predator and rightfully booted off the team, he wound up in Ohio, where he’s been having a hell of an existential crisis.

The last time audiences saw him, he shaved his head while repeatedly calling himself “stupid.” The teaser trailers show a new and angrier Deep emerging, meaning that The King of the Sea will no longer be the cocky, immature playboy he was before. Whether this means he sides with The Seven or The Boys (or neither) has yet to be seen.

Ridiculous: A Literal Avengers-Level Threat Will Appear

While superpowers (obviously) exist in The Boys, something that would seem implausible even in this setting is an actual Avengers-level threat. Say for example, a giant interdimensional squid popping up in New York or a Mad Titan dropping by to wipe out half of all life in the universe.

The reason for this is because there’s simply no scientifically grounded explanation for such things to exist, unlike the heroes’ superpowers, which were created by scientists. Also, in the comics, such crises/crossover events were used as a cover story for whenever the heroes had a recreational orgy – expect something similar to pop up in the continuation of this irreverent superhero satire.

Believable: A-Train Defects

During the first season finale, Hughie surprisingly saves A-Train: the speedster who accidentally killed his girlfriend. Even if he had all the right in the world to let A-Train convulse to death following an overdose of Compound V, Hughie saves him and even calls an ambulance.

Since A-Train actually regrets doing the terrible things he’s done, it won’t be surprising if he decides to repay Hughie and atone by helping him, Starlight, and The Boys in their fight against Vought and Homelander. The show seems to have set up a redemption arc for A-Train, and it would be interesting to see how much he’s changed.

Ridiculous: Starlight Becomes A Supervillain

Starlight is The Seven’s newest hero, and she’s been treated like crap ever since joining them, but she never let these horrible experiences embitter her. In fact, she arguably came out of tougher, even inspiring the cynical Queen Maeve to snap out of her pessimistic stupor. So with that being said, it wouldn’t make sense for Starlight to suddenly fall to the dark side.

Unless some major tragedy breaks her, it’s currently unlikely that Starlight would declare war against The Boys or embody the worst of the story’s superheroes. For now, we see her reluctantly helping Hughie out by leading the more moral side of The Seven in the brewing internal conflict. But who knows? After all, a lot can happen in a show’s second season!

Believable: The Boys Use Compound V

Originally in the comics, The Boys used Compound V on themselves to get a fighting chance against the superheroes. In contrast, their live-action versions are currently just regular people who use black-ops tactics to avoid head-on collisions with The Seven. But now that things are only getting even more heated, it’s only logical for The Boys to use the super-soldier serum if they want to survive the coming fight.

Ridiculous: Vought Unleashes A Second Homelander

Homelander may be smarter than his creators at Vought could have anticipated, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t make some contingency plans just in case he broke out of their control… which is exactly what he did by Season 1’s end. So what better way to put down Homelander – the world’ strongest hero – than by using another Homelander?

Ridiculous? Yes. Impossible? No.

Not only will this be a major plot twist taken straight from the comics (which we won’t give away), but this outlandish move makes sense for a company that mass produces superheroes. Who’s to say that they’re not above making more than one Homelander, just in case? What remains to be seen is if the show executes this particular twist, but it would be cool if Vought used a Superman/Bizarro publicity spin when they send another Homelander to take down the rabid one.

Believable: Homelander Wins

A terrifying change the show does with Homelander is turning him into an actual threat. Instead of being a hedonistic manchild like he was in the comics, this Homelander is a charismatic and cunning manipulator with the powers of an evil Superman.

With that in mind, it won’t be too surprising to see things go his way over the course of Season 2. If Season 1’s finale was anything to go by, he’s a ruthless mastermind who still has a lot of cards hidden up his sleeves. His endgame has yet to be revealed, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be losing any time soon.

Ridiculous: Homelander Jr. Kills Homelander Sr.

One of the biggest twists in Season 1 is that Butcher’s wife is actually alive. Even worse, it’s confirmed that her son is the child of Homelander, making him the first superhero with natural superpowers and the setting’s first real superman.

Believable: The Boys Ditch Butcher

Given that Butcher risked the lives of his friends for his personal vendetta against Homelander, it won’t be too surprising if The Boys leave him as a result. It also doesn’t help that Hughie was the one who saved The Boys, so it won’t be much of a shocker either if they defer leadership to him over Butcher.

Ridiculous: Butcher Gets A Change Of Heart

Butcher is the dictionary definition of an anti-hero, which is why he’s comfortable with getting his hands dirty. But now that his wife is alive and even had a child with his arch-enemy, his entire reason for living and fighting the way he does has been thrown asunder. Add in the fact that The Boys probably hate his guts after he left them in Vought’s hands, and it’s safe to say that Butcher hit rock bottom.

But will this change him for the better? Hell to the no.

If anything, these setbacks will only make him angrier and more vindictive towards anyone with superpowers or anyone who gets in his way. Hell, it’s more likely that he’ll become the true villain of the show! Expect Butcher to get even more ruthless than ever before when The Boys Season 2 rolls in.
