Season 1 of 7 Seeds is now on Netflix, but what will happen with season 2? 7 Seeds is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yumi Tamura that was first published in 2001 in the magazine Betsucomi and later in Flowers. After 35 volumes, the manga came to an end in 2017, and in all those years it never received a TV adaptation – until 2019 when Netflix decided to house the anime.

7 Seeds is set in a post-apocalyptic Earth, years after the planet was hit by a meteorite. Prior to the impact, world leaders developed a survival plan called The Seven Seeds Project, in which each country would preserve a number of people through cryogenics, and would be woken up after a computer determined that Earth was safe for humans. The series follows the struggles of five groups of young adults to adapt and survive in this new planet Earth, mostly because they weren’t told what would happen before they were put in cryonic preservation.

The anime adaptation of 7 Seeds was announced in November 2018 with an April 2019 release date, but due to production delays, it wasn’t released until June 28, 2019. This first part of the series has a total of 12 episodes, which clearly isn’t enough to tell a story as rich and extensive as 7 Seeds, so what can viewers expect from season 2?

7 Seeds Season 2 Renewal

7 Seeds hasn’t been officially renewed by Netflix, but there’s no reason to believe it won’t be. Season 1 is listed as Part 1, suggesting there will be at least one more season, although plans can always change, especially after fans of the manga didn’t react well to the anime. Some found it to be rushed, lacking the elements that made the manga a big hit, and didn’t like the style difference between the source material and the anime. Still, having come this far with the story, it wouldn’t be wise to not renew it, and a second season would give the creators a chance to learn from their mistakes.

7 Seeds Season 2 Release Date

If 7 Seeds is renewed, and supposing the announcement comes by the end of August or early September, season 2 could be out as early as January 2020. At the latest, 7 Seeds could be back by summer 2020, and hoping there won’t be any delays like with the first season. This is more than enough time for viewers to revisit the source material and for new fans to become acquainted with it.

7 Seeds Story Details

The 7 Seeds manga has 35 volumes and a total of 179 chapters – part 1 of the anime covered 83 chapters in just 12 episodes. It’s a lot for one season, which is why many fans are not happy with it, but it still leaves a lot of material for a second season. The end of part 1 saw Hana being swept away in an underground river, with her friends wondering if she somehow survived. Ango and Ryo were kicked out of the village and caome across with Team Summer B, and they all stumbled upon a ghost ship called the Fuji.

Season 2 would cover from chapter 84 onward, and hopefully it will cover less than 80 chapters, giving time for each subplot to develop. As such, 7 Seeds Part 2 would explore the Fuji ship, what’s in it, and the dangers of it, as well as Hana’s fate and other dangers that the teams encounter in this new Earth that have the potential to destroy everything.

7 Seeds Part 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
