Jay Smith of 90 Day Fiancé claimed the barbershop owners were paid to tell Ashley Martson about the cheating. The couple has been divorced for a few months now and seems to be living their lives separately.

Smith and Martson are now a household name thanks to initially being featured on season 6 of 90 Day Fiancé after the two met while Martson was vacationing in Jamaica. Yet, Martson and Smith’s wedded bliss did not last long. He returned to old habits, cheating on her once he had moved to the United States. The chaotic relationship, as featured on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, led Martson to file for divorce, refusing to change his status of immigration so he could be eligible for a green card. In July 2019, Smith was arrested and handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody, where he sat behind bars for almost a month. He was eventually released and is still awaiting the outcome of his trial.

According to In Touch, the reality star stated he wished he had never worked on the TLC show as his life would be “totally different.” The reality personality decided to come clean about his experience starring on 90 Day Fiancé and even said he regretted being a part of the show. The Jamaican native said it was Martson’s idea to appear in the show which documented their long-distance relationship. The 22-year-old told the outlet that he wanted no part of it and felt as if his relationship was not portrayed correctly but more like a toxic relationship.

Smith did not like the fact that he was portrayed as a bad person as to him it was not an accurate representation. He was also so bold as to claim that certain scenes were invented by the production team to boost the show’s ratings. While the reality star confessed that the couple was struggling behind the scenes, he says that the Tinder incident was faked. The TLC personality also claimed that the GQ Barber Shop owners were paid to tell Martson about the mystery woman in the bathroom saying they “got paid $500 each” to share the news with his then-wife.

Smith always stood his ground in saying that there was a reason he had cheated on the Pennsylvania native. During the season 6 tell-all special, fans watched as it looked like Smith would be spilling the tea on Martson. But he ended up biting his tongue, since he did not want to hurt her two children. When In Touch asked for a comment regarding Smith’s interview, all Martson would say was that she hoped he would move on and learn from his past transgressions.
