A baseless though plausible claim that has churned through the rumor mill of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? and The Family Chantel couple Pedro Jimeno and Chantel Everett has been the thought that Nicole Jimeno is not actually Pedro’s sister, but his secret wife in the Dominican Republic. While it’s purely conjecture and a notion that Nicole outwardly rejects, fans claim there have been clues littered throughout the series to suggest otherwise.
The hurried engagement and subsequent marriage of Jimeno and Everett has been tumultuous at worst and tenuous at best. While the constant fighting and swirling rumors have made for a healthy dose of entertainment, the relationship - as is often the case with 90 Day Fiancé couples - hasn’t exactly been the model of what a healthy marriage should look like. Pedro and Chantel met on Facebook when Chantel’s former Spanish teacher linked the two together to help her learn the language. Chantel’s family has been slow to approve of her Dominican husband, ever since she decided to keep the engagement a secret from them. Pedro moved to Atlanta to be with Chantel, but remains especially close with his mother and sister - too close for some fans.
The perception that Nicole may not be Pedro’s sister - which Monsters and Critics notes was something Nicole addressed in her Instagram story recently - came about because of the way Pedro treats Nicole. He’s been taking care of her in a nurturing way; even offering to put her up in a hotel room and stay with her in it. Last summer, Pedro expressed concerns that Chantel thought he put his sister before his wife, saying, “I want to prove that I love Chantel,” before a fistfight erupted between him and Chantel’s family.
On Instagram, Nicole was asked the following question: “Why did everyone say you were Pedro’s wife?” Nicole responded, “That’s something I do not understand. People are very crazy and really, when those comments came up, I felt extremely wrong.” The theory arose not only because of the physical resemblance, but also when Karen, Chantel’s mother, suggested in a previous season they might not be brother and sister. Karen expressed her concerns, saying, “Nicole seems to behave as if Pedro is her boyfriend. It makes me wonder what kind of relationship that is.”
With the recent premiere of The Family Chantel, it’s clear that TLC is trying to milk this family drama for all it’s worth. To the characters’ credit or detriment, it appears to reach a new breaking point with each new season featuring Pedro and Chantel that airs. From Karen accusing Pedro’s mother of “body trafficking” to Pedro saying of Chantel’s family, “I married a circus, man,” the new spinoff seems to have picked up exactly where 90 Day Fiancé left off. In fact, Pedro is currently trying to figure out a way to tell his wife that he wants to move his sister and his mother into their apartment for them to stay in the US for good. Needless to say, there should be many more juicy storylines to focus on in this show than the age-old question of whether or not Pedro and Nicole are blood-related.
