The 90 Day Fiancé stars David Toborowsky and Annie Suwan, who appeared on the season of the TLC series, came back last night for 90 Day: LIVE from New York City to talk about where they are now - most notably: whether or not they’re still living in a storage unit apartment. When we left them in season 5, the couple had trouble affording the dowry that is customary in Annie’s Thai culture, as David was jobless. They were relying heavily on David’s friends Chris and Nikki, who were funding nearly everything for the couple from plane tickets, visa fees, to everyday living expenses.
Later, on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? David and Annie were staying at their friends Chris and Nikki’s house. However, after a heated argument, they were forced to leave. Chris attempted to help the couple - offering them first a room, rent-free, in one of the properties that he owned, the upstairs apartment in a renovated firehouse and then, finally, the upstairs apartment of a storage unit. The move nearly broke the 90 Day couple, due to horrendous living conditions in the kitchenless apartment.
Annie threatened to leave back to Thailand if David didn’t straighten out his finances and get them into a new place. However, according to their appearance on 90 Day: LIVE special, the couple revealed that they are no longer living in Chris and Nikki’s storage unit apartment; unfortunately, that doesn’t mean they’ve actually improved their situation either - as Annie revealed the reality TV stars have been “couch surfing” around family homes.
According to David, the pair have finally paid Annie’s dowry - specifically the $23,000-$25,000 owed to Annie’s family in exchange for their blessing and her hand in marriage, that David was, previously, struggling to pay. The husband explained that his new job, teaching English classes at a college in Louisville, Kentucky (Annie is one of his students), made it possible to pay off his bride’s parents and settle their debt.
That all said, fans who think the 90 Day Fiancé stars have turned a major corner, and will soon be able to stop couch surfing, are sure to be disappointed to hear that in spite of the progress David and Annie have made, they’re still making strange financial decisions - revealing that, during a recent trip to Thailand, Annie paid for cosmetic surgery, specifically: a double eyelid surgery. It’s hard to imagine the hosts who have allowed the reality TV stars to crash on a couch would be happy to hear that their generosity helped Annie get an elective surgery - instead of investing in a place of their own.
Fortunately, while viewers might disagree with their priorities, it’s hard to dismiss how happy the 90 Day Fiancé stars appeared on the LIVE event in New York. Annie and David were one of the stronger couples from season 5 - even though they were struggling financially. As a result, it’s good to see that they’re still committed to making their relationship work and haven’t lost interest throughout the ups and downs of their ongoing financial woes. Hopefully, the next time 90 Day Fiancé catches up with them, they’ll be happy and paying rent in a grown-up apartment.
